INTERMEDIATE GERBER ACCUMARK: PATTERN MAKING AND GRADING

During this 8 week Gerber course, students acquire knowledge in intermediate functions of Gerber such as digitizing and plotting (printing) as well as pattern manipulation and marker making.

Students learn:

  • basic digitizing and digital pattern making skills (a refresher)

  • advanced Gerber functions: dart manipulation, fullness manipulation and pleating

  • how to create advanced patterns with Gerber (two final projects)

  • how to create grading maps

  • two methods of grading on Gerber: simple method and grade rule method

  • to make a full size run markers and plotting.

    Four projects will be worked on throughout the course. These projects include:

    • a graded pant with contour waistband and back welt pockets

    • a graded technical streetwear jacket with dropped shoulder.

Length:  8 weeks

Schedule: Classes run once per week, same day and time, for the duration of the course

Class Capacity: 3 students


Students are given a total of 3 hours of additional lab time, during the length of their course. Please e-mail us at op@the-cuttingroom.com  for date and times. Hours are given on a first come, first serve base. Any additional lab time can be bought for an hourly rate.

Please arrive to class on time. If you will be away for class, please inform us at op@the-cuttingroom.com. Any cancellation or absences that are not notified within 24 hours of your class will be considered a missed session, no make up class will be provided.

This program does not require approval by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, the registrar did not review this program.

Meet Your Instructors

Instructor: Patty Nayel

Patty Nayel is a Canadian born fashion designer who is based out of North Vancouver, British Columbia. After graduating from Kwantlen Polytechnic University in 2009 with a degree in Fashion Design, Patty started her career as a technical designer in the lingerie industry. While working there, she started her eco Bridal brand, Pure Magnolia, as a side project and launched the brand as a full collection in 2010. Patty feels quite strongly about nurturing other designers and has worked hard to promote eco-friendly vendors and photographers that she feels are doing good things for the planet.

Instructor: Jessica 

Jessica has worked in the fashion industry for almost three decades for brands such as Karma Athletics, Lotus-wear Designs Ltd., and Design Group—just to name a few. In addition to these valuable experiences, she has been self-employed designing, creating and producing petwear, uniforms, and wedding gowns as well as other custom formal wear with impressive results.

Jessica is formally trained in British, Canadian, and Japanese-pattern drafting, which has allowed her to work within a variety of experiences achieving enduring success. While Jessica continues to hone her craft as a freelance designer, it is her dedication and technical expertise that have made her a highly valued employee and instructor/mentor.
