Couture Embellishment Program
The Couture Embellishment Program at The Cut Fashion Design Academy helps fashion designers master decorative techniques like beading, embroidery, and fabric manipulation. It emphasizes hands-on experience and technical training essential for high-end fashion.
Students will learn to enhance their designs while exploring historical and contemporary couture embellishments. The curriculum includes advanced technique practice and portfolio development to showcase individual craftsmanship.
By program completion, participants will possess a strong foundation in couture embellishment and the skills to create pieces that reflect their design aesthetic, making it ideal for careers in fashion design, costume creation, or luxury garment production.

Couture Embellishment & Fabric Manipulation
This two-week intensive course delves into the fundamentals of fabric manipulation and couture embellishment in fashion. Utilizing traditional haute couture methods, this course fosters innovative ideas and helps showcase a unique style. Each module covers pleats and tucks, layering, and texture using delicate fabrics and specialty beads and sequins from France. Depending on experience, students will apply these techniques to a pre-made garment of choice, ranging from a jacket, dress, top or a skirt.

Learning Objectives & Outcomes:
Upon completion of this program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
Skillfully work with high-quality materials and specialized equipment used in haute couture fashion.
Develop skills in hand sewing and fine beadwork using a tambour hook and beading needle on a slate frame.
Master the art of combining delicate fabrics with crystals, beads, sequins, and chenille to create cohesive designs with texture and dimension.
Learn to apply specialty sequins with raffia on tulle to create floral designs.
Create 3 couture embellishments
Create an embellished chiffon shrug
Create beaded collar to apply to personal jacket
Method(s) of Evaluation*
Students’ progress and proficiency will be evaluated through a combination of practical assessments and creative projects.
Completion Requirements*
The Cut Academy will use the following grade scale to determine each student’s grade through their work. N/A for part-time programs.
Students must receive a complete or incomplete.

Depending on the final application to the garment, the teacher can purchase additional supplies.
Specialist equipment will be available to use for the course free of charge. The option to purchase afterward will be available. This includes a slate frame and tambour hook for couture beading.
Meet your professors
Nargas Khabazha
Nargas opened her first studio in 1997 as a pattern maker for private label of her own clothing line and developed her skill for specializing in special sizes for women. She was featured in the Vancouver Sun and north shore news as a realistic designer. In 2002Nargas launched her ready to wear collection for the chic sophisticated baby boomer woman, which sold across country. She then opened her own studio on west 8th Avenue to create and control a high-end garment. Nargas has over 40 years of extensive experience as a fashion technical instructor in pattern, draping, fitting and textile development. She has supported her students to showcase their design through a fashionable collection twice a year at the Vancouver Fashion Week from 2008 to 2025. Nargas share her passion and knowledge with her students and supports them as a caring mentor to the successful walk to the runway show. I moved to Canada in 1984 as anew arrival who chose metropolitan Montreal to settle in. A year later Nargas opened her own handcrafted shore store without any prior experience in the trade, in downtown Montreal. Soon she became specialist as a shoemaker or men. Few years later Nargas’ passion for design, landed her in the fashion design program at Lasalle college in Montreal.
Jessica Hsu
Jessica has worked in the fashion industry for almost three decades for brands such as Karma Athletics, Lotuswear Designs Ltd., and Design Group—just to name a few. Currently Jessica is a Senior Technical Pattern Lead at Arcteryx. In addition to Jessica's impressive career, she designs, creates and produces pet wear, uniforms, wedding gowns and other custom formal wear with impressive results. Jessica is an alumni of the prestigious Central Saint Martins School of Design.
Jessica is formally trained in British, Canadian and Japanese pattern drafting techniques. A graduate of LaSalle College, Van Nung University, Chin-Chin Institute of Fashion Design, and the Central Saint Martins University of Art short term fashion Design, Jessica has demonstrated a perpetual drive for excellence and constant growth. While Jessica continues to perfect her craft as a freelance designer, it is her dedication and technical expertise that have made her a highly valued employee, instructor and mentor.
