Looking to learn the basics of the captivating world of fashion? The Cut offers you a variety of two-week intensive workshops designed to maximize your industry knowledge within a minimum time frame. In these hands-on workshops, students will be immersed in all facets of the fashion business. In readings, lectures and class discussions, students are taught by industry professionals in small group settings, receiving first-class learning in a real-life business environment, using state of the art digital platforms as well as hands-on hard skill applications. Each class comprises of two levels at 16 hours per week, for a total of 32 hours. Pre-requisites for each class are outlined in each specific course. Acquire the skills you need to reach your academic and professional goals or complement your current full-time diploma or degree program, or simply build a competitive portfolio for graduate program applications to prepare for advanced study. 

PATTERN MAKING – BASICS

The Pattern Making Basics course introduces students to the standard principles of pattern making. This introductory class teaches students the fundamentals of pattern making with small class sizes to allow for individual attention. Students learn necessary specialized skills through hands-on training by highly qualified professors in an industry-level environment.

No experience required. However, if you have some experience we can build on that.

STUDENT WILL: 
Learn basic techniques
Practice labeling and organizing
Learn how to draft pattern blocks
Learn how to manipulate patterns
Learn how to add zippers, pleats and vents
Draft slopers

Length: 2 Weeks / Monday – Thursday

(August 3rd is a holiday, class will run on Friday instead of Monday on that week)

If there is 3 or less students registered for the class, the class will be considered a private class. Students will complete all assignments as listed, in a 3 hour class instead of 4, students are welcome to stay after class for one hour to make use of the studio.

Additional Materials: Students require a ruler set for the program. Students are required to purchase pattern block books which are used for the program, which are available from The Cut Fashion Design Academy.

This program does not require approval by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, the registrar did not review this program.

Please arrive to class on time. If you will be away for class, please inform us at op@the-cuttingroom.com. Any cancellation or absences that are not notified with in 24 hours of your class will be considered a missed session, no make up class will provided.

Internship at Jason Matlo and junior assistant designer at Roxanne Nikki.

Azam is a creative fashion designer, skilled pattern maker, and professional fit technician with more than 17 years of industry experience. Azam is the Gold Medal award winner in the Canada (Skills Canada) championship. Her work has been shown internationally, and most recently her collections have walked the runways of Vancouver Fashion Week for the F/W 2018 and S/S 2019 seasons.
