PATTERN MAKING AND ASSEMBLING TECHNIQUE - FULL-TIME
Where technical precision meets creative construction.
The Pattern Making and Assembling Technique Certificate is a comprehensive 280 hour professional program designed for students who want to develop strong technical skills in garment construction, pattern drafting, and fit development.
This program focuses on the essential foundation of fashion production by teaching students how to translate design concepts into technically accurate, production ready garments.
Pattern making is the backbone of fashion design and garment manufacturing. This certificate prepares students to understand garment structure, fabric behavior, fit correction, and technical drafting processes required in professional studios and production environments.
Students graduate with a technical portfolio that includes drafted slopes, constructed garments, sewing samples, and a final six piece collection developed using professional pattern making techniques.
PROGRAM DETAILS
The Pattern Making and Assembling Technique Certificate provides in depth training in flat pattern making, garment assembly, textile understanding, and professional sewing techniques.
Throughout the program, students develop technical accuracy and industry level precision. You will learn how to draft pattern blocks, manipulate darts, construct collars and sleeves, draft shirts, dresses, skirts, pants, knit slopers, and men’s bodice slopers.
This program emphasizes hands on development. Students draft, cut, construct, fit, and adjust garments while learning proper equipment use and workshop safety standards.
Areas of focus include:
Flat pattern making methods and drafting fundamentals
Garment fit analysis and measurement techniques
Pattern manipulation and sloper development
Technical drawing and garment terminology
Textile identification and fabric characteristics
Sewing techniques and sample book development
Garment construction methods including zippers, waistbands, pleats, vents, linings, and fusing
Development of a final six piece technical collection
By the end of the program, students are able to draft professional patterns, correct fit issues, and construct garments that meet industry technical standards.

PROGRAM JOURNEY
-
Students begin by learning flat pattern making methods and foundational drafting techniques.
You will draft basic pattern blocks including front and back bodice, waistbands, and hems. Students develop an understanding of garment components such as zippers, vents, pleats, pockets, and structural construction details.
Terminology of garment and pattern parts is emphasized to ensure students build strong technical communication skills.
-
Proper fit is essential in garment construction. Students learn how to take accurate personal measurements and how to measure mannequins correctly.
This module explores garment fitting principles and teaches students how to assess and correct fit issues through pattern adjustment techniques.
You will develop confidence in evaluating garment proportion, balance, and structural alignment.
-
Students draft bottoms such as sleeve, skirt, and pant slopers and learn to develop dress patterns and button up shirt patterns. You will practice collar construction and pattern manipulation techniques.
This module strengthens technical drafting skills and reinforces the relationship between pattern development and garment functionality.
-
Students gain practical sewing and textile knowledge required in professional production environments. You will learn proper equipment use, maintenance, and safety procedures.
Students create a sewing sample book demonstrating stitches, seams, hem finishes, zipper applications, waistband applications, pleats, and construction techniques. You will cut and prepare textiles, identify fabric types and weaves, understand grain and fabric weight, and learn how to insert various types of fusing.
This module ensures students understand both technical drafting and physical garment construction.
-
In the final stage of the program, students develop a six piece collection using pattern making techniques learned throughout the course. Each piece demonstrates drafting accuracy, garment assembly, and technical fit.
Students present their final collection to peers and instructors, developing professional presentation and critique skills.
