The Styling and Marketing for Fashion and Lifestyle Certificate is a comprehensive 280 hour professional program designed for students who want to work on the business, media, and branding side of the fashion and lifestyle industries. This program focuses on the strategic communication, marketing development, consumer psychology, and media execution required to build and promote successful fashion and lifestyle brands.

Fashion today is not only about design. It is about positioning, storytelling, digital presence, brand identity, and consumer engagement. This certificate prepares students to understand how fashion moves from concept to consumer and how brands connect with audiences across print, digital, social media, and live experiences.

Students graduate with a professional portfolio that includes a hard copy magazine project, a complete media press kit, a branded website, a marketing campaign, a local promotional event, and a brand marketing video.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The Styling and Marketing for Fashion and Lifestyle Certificate provides a strong foundation in fashion marketing, public relations, consumer behavior, digital branding, and event promotion.

Throughout the program, students develop a practical understanding of how fashion businesses operate within the global marketplace. You will study how brands are positioned, how trends are analyzed, how consumers make buying decisions, and how marketing strategies are designed to influence behavior.

This certificate emphasizes applied learning. Students complete structured projects that simulate real industry experiences. You will research, analyze, write, design, present, and execute branding strategies across multiple platforms.

Students participate in lectures, industry discussions, research projects, lab sessions, presentations, and portfolio development workshops.

PROGRAM JOURNEY

  • Students begin by building a strong understanding of the fashion industry structure and marketing pipeline. This module introduces key terminology, fashion segments, distribution systems, and the relationship between designers, manufacturers, marketers, retailers, and consumers.

    Students learn how fashion trends move from concept development to retail distribution and how brands position themselves within the market. You will analyze marketing strategies and study successful fashion brands to understand what drives visibility and growth.

  • This module explores the psychology behind purchasing decisions. Students examine how motivation, perception, culture, lifestyle, and social influence affect consumer buying behavior.

    You will learn how to conduct basic qualitative and quantitative research, gather data, interpret consumer trends, and apply research findings to marketing strategies. Understanding consumer behavior allows students to create marketing campaigns that are relevant, persuasive, and strategically targeted.

  • Strong communication is central to fashion marketing. In this module, students develop professional writing skills for editorial, digital media, public relations, and advertising.

    You will write fashion articles, designer profiles, runway reviews, trend reports, and promotional copy. Students pitch story ideas, develop editorial content, and produce a complete hard copy print magazine as part of their portfolio.

    This module builds clarity, brand voice, and professional storytelling ability.

  • Public relations is essential to brand growth and visibility. Students learn how to design public relations campaigns, create media contact lists, and build professional press kits.

    You will analyze advertising strategies across print, broadcast, online, and social media platforms. Students develop and budget advertising campaigns, create press releases, designer biographies, backgrounders, and professional look-books.

    This module strengthens strategic thinking, presentation skills, and industry communication.

  • Modern fashion marketing requires digital fluency. Students create branded websites for self branding or e business concepts. You will explore social selling, online payment systems, and introductory analytics tools.

    Students also plan and promote a local sales event, develop promotional strategies, and produce a brand marketing video. This integrated approach ensures students understand how digital presence, live events, and content marketing work together to support brand growth.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • High school graduation or mature student status 19+

  • Admissions interview in person or via Zoom or Skype

  • Application Essay minimum 250 words outlining your passion and career goals

  • English proficiency, if applicable

  • CLBPT minimum 6

  • Duolingo 85 to 90 accepted in certain circumstances

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS

Nikki Renshaw

Nikki started her design career in her native London, UK where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Central Saint Martin’s school of Art. After moving to Vancouver, BC, she enrolled in BCIT where she completed the Interior Design program, and has been teaching a variety of design courses at several institutions for the past decade. Nikki has extensive experience in television, where she hosted numerous shows back in London, as well as hosting a radio show for over a decade here in Vancouver. She is an expert in marketing as she has been running her own design company for many years and has a large social media presence with over 118,000 Instagram followers. She regularly contributes to design magazines on both sides of the globe and Elle France magazine included her Instagram account @englisheccentrichome in their feature on influencers to watch in 2024. Her work has been featured in Elle Canada, UK Cosmopolitan, Vancouver Magazine, Western Living and The Vancouver Sun as well as other publications. Currently, Nikki is the Program Director for the Costume, Global Fashion Marketing and Interior Design courses at the Cut, as well as running her design business and studying for a Master’s Degree at the Arts University of Bournemouth in the UK.


Julie Berg

Julie Berg brings 25 years of forward-thinking fashion design and energy-fuelled marketing talent to the table. A product development specialist for both retail and private labels, she’s crafted contemporary designer sportswear and accessories collections for small-sized independent retailers and big brands alike. Working since the early ’90s with Vancouver’s Neto Leather label, she’s been a creative resource for Canadian retailers Harry Rosen, Bod & Christensen, and Leone, and for US majors such as Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Boston Proper. Travelling across North America and Europe to industry trade shows, Julie has worked with fashion buyers and agencies to assist in marketing positioning and distribution, and with textile mills and tanneries for product development. As a business entrepreneur, she launched her own eco-sportswear label, Know Wear, whose tourism-targeted client list boasted Princess Cruise Lines, BC Ferries and Royal BC Museum, and reached targeted sales projections of $1M in the third year of operation. For the last six years, Julie has served as a full-time professor at prestigious Vancouver art colleges, instructing in both the design and marketing disciplines, ensuring excellent outcomes for the next generation of industry innovators.
