PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT SOURCING & MANUFACTURING
Where performance engineering meets technical precision.
The Technical Pattern Making Advanced Outerwear and Active Wear Certificate is a comprehensive 280 hour professional program designed for students who want to specialize in performance apparel, technical garment construction, and advanced outerwear development. This program focuses on drafting, fit analysis, fabric innovation, and industry level production techniques used in activewear and technical outerwear manufacturing.
Performance garments require precision pattern drafting, functional design features, and a deep understanding of textile behavior under movement. This certificate prepares students to conceptualize, draft, and manufacture activewear garments that meet industry standards for durability, mobility, and performance.
Students graduate with a technical portfolio that includes a four piece capsule collection demonstrating activewear drafting, performance construction techniques, and outerwear development.
PROGRAM DETAILS
The Technical Pattern Making Advanced Outerwear and Active Wear Certificate provides in depth training in performance textiles, garment engineering, technical drafting, and advanced construction techniques.
Throughout the program, students develop industry level precision and production readiness. You will learn how to draft patterns for base layers, yoga pants, technical pants, fleece mid layers, and structured outerwear shells. Students refine garment blocks for articulation, seam placement, mobility, and sport specific movement.
This program emphasizes hands on development. Students draft, construct, evaluate fit, correct technical issues, and manufacture garments using performance fabrics, trims, and specialized construction techniques.
Areas of focus include:
Identification of performance fibers, fabrics, and trims
Technical terminology used in the activewear and outerwear industry
Anatomic fit and sport specific garment movement
Base layer drafting and seam placement strategies
Mid layer fleece and synthetic insulation construction
Yoga pant and active top drafting and fit correction
Technical pant development for hiking, running, and mountaineering
Outerwear shell drafting including hood development
Advanced waterproof construction and lining integration
Conceptualization and creation of a four piece capsule collection
By the end of the program, students are able to draft and construct performance garments that meet professional technical standards

PROGRAM JOURNEY
-
Students begin by identifying new fibers, fabrics, and trims used in technical apparel manufacturing. You will study industry terminology and analyze leading performance products to understand functional design features.
This module introduces anatomic fit principles and sport specific garment movement required for activewear development
-
Students explore the structure of base layers and mid layers including fleece and synthetic insulation garments. You will evaluate seam placement, fabric selection, layering strategy, and fit correction.
Drafting and sewing of base layers and fleece garments reinforce performance construction principles.
-
Students study the drafting and construction of technical pants for hiking, running, and mountaineering applications. You will apply sizing systems, advanced trims, reinforcement techniques, and performance construction details.
Fit refinement and articulation techniques ensure garments support movement and durability.
-
Students explore hood development and outerwear shell drafting. You will draft and sew mock ups of outerwear blocks, refine seam placement for mobility, and integrate technical features such as cuff systems and ventilation.
Waterproof construction methods and lining integration are examined to ensure performance reliability.
-
In the final stage of the program, students develop a four piece capsule collection that demonstrates technical drafting accuracy, garment engineering, and performance construction techniques.
Students present their final collection to peers and instructors, developing professional critique and presentation skills.
