Thrift-Flip: Transform Your Wardrobe:

Looking to repurpose garments from your closet or from the thrift store into new looks? Turn a maxi-dress into into a halter top and pants? Or your favourite jeans into a skirt? Transform your pieces with Thrift Flip. This course will provide you with an introduction to the basics of garment construction, pattern-making, deconstruction, textile manipulation, and design. Feel the satisfaction of transforming a garment you were considering donating, into a chic new look for the season.

Repurpose existing garments from your own closet or the thrift store and transform it into something with your design signature that is fresh and totally one of a kind.

 

Important Notes

  • Your instructor will structure your work around your skill level, capabilities and preferred pace
  • All muslin is included
  • Sewing kits and additional fabrics can be purchased at The Cut Fashion Design Academy at wholesale price. (Read more on our FAQ page)
  • Classes of three or fewer students are considered private classes. In this instance, you’ll complete all assignments as listed but in six, not eight, weeks

  • Please arrive to class on time
  • If you’re going to miss class for any reason, please email in advance to let us know. If you fail to report your absence within 24 hours, your class will be considered a missed session and no make up class will be provided
  • You’re permitted one make up class per session, as long as it’s taken within the time frame of your course and as long as a spot becomes available during another class

    The Magic of Upcycling: Denim

    Many of us possess old jeans that we no longer wear.

    The magic of upcycling can transform them into

    exciting new expressions.

    In this workshop we will learn the basic techniques of

    dismantling denim and then make it into one or more

    (time and skill level permitting) of the following items:

    placemats, tote or cross-body bags.
