The Cut’s Top Stories 2021: From Liza D to the Success of a Turkish Refugee

As we wrap-up another year, it is just natural to give in to our curiosity and check-out which of our stories connected with the most amount of people. As you know, there is always something happening at The Cut. Our doors are open, our students hard at work, our staff are holding it all together, and Liza D, well she is doing all the great things Liza does to ensure that The Cut maintains the highest standards of education, that classes are full of dedicated individuals, and that Noodle is available for fun when a smile is needed!

5. Cosette Isherwood ~ The Path to Parsons

A student who joined The Cut in 2020, Cosette had a dream of attending the prestigious Parsons School of Design. She exceled in the Portfolio Prep Program and also created a Brand Book. Channeling her vision into tangible assets that captured her vision was enough to lead to her acceptance at Parsons with a $25,000 USD Scholarship. Learn more about her journey here!

4. Joanna Delaney ~ Accomplished Bridal Designer Joins The Cut

With Joanna’s history in the fashion industry and running her own custom bridal business, it was no wonder that aspiring students flocked to this story. Teaching Pattern Making, Couture Pattern Making, and Technical Pattern Making, Joanna brings an expert approach and international sophistication to her classes. 3. Student Spotlight: Lori Tagoona, A Northerner ‘Studying’ on the West Coast

Lori Tagoona completed her Pattern Making course in Spring 2021 and followed it up with Technical Pattern Making. A remote student who has a desire to adapt technical outerwear to be suitable in conditions in Northern Canada, she also is tied to her community and reviving the tradition of sewing, is something close to her heart. 2. Liza D: Exposing the Consumer

Founder and Dean of The Cut, Liza Deyrmenjian is never short of ideas and opinions formed from over 30-years in the fashion, textile, and manufacturing businesses. So when asked about sustainability and greenwashing in the industry’s marketing, she had a few thoughts! 1. Student, Entrepreneur, Refugee: Ghali Alissami is Taking It to the Next Level at The Cut

Ghali Alissami arrived in Canada as a Turkish refugee. This artististic entrepreneur is also a fashion designer, a student at The Cut (2-year Diploma Program) and owns and operates a boutique on Granville Island called Mawlana Cashmere & Silk. Some may say over-achiever but Ghali isn’t stopping yet! His future plans are to expand his Galilio brand internationally and launch a Vancouver-based showroom. Read more about this go-getter here!
