Student Spotlight ~ Saakhi Chhatwal, Founder of Veeré Inc.

When a designer with such a dynamic and colourful story decides to attend The Cut, we are immediately curious to learn more! Veeré Inc founder Saakhi Chhatwal was enrolled in our Fashion Marketing program while collaborating internationally. So much drive and passion for the industry.

We asked Saakhi five-questions to explore her world a little more:

Why did you decide to enroll with The Cut given all the options out there?

I read Google reviews for The Cut and then did some research online. I loved everything that I read and decided that I wanted to be a part of such a prestigious institution. As expected, I made the right decision and had the most amazing experience. All of my professors are fabulous, and I've never seen an institution so invested in its students' careers and future. I cannot wait to come back for my next course, when the time is right.

Tell us more about what is happening with your business this fall/winter?

I am currently working with designers however I won’t be designing a line for my boutique for at least the next couple of years. At the moment, the designers I'm working with have ateliers in Mumbai, Paris, New York and LA.

What are your plans after graduating?

To open up my own retail store which will also feature a Parisian style bakery and a rooftop cocktail bar. I'm currently working on this business, and aiming to have my storefront opening early next year.

What excites you most about this next step in your life?

The concept of blending fashion with hospitality, as well as the opportunity to work with multiple talented designers across the globe.

How did the pandemic affect your ability to do business?

Unfortunately, due to the rules around travelling because of Covid, and with the state of distress in India earlier this year, I was unable to go to India. I did, however, travel to Sri Lanka (where I was able to communicate with my designers from India and do a photoshoot for my business social media launch), New York and Los Angeles. I've now met with almost all of my designers, and have two last trips to New York (for New York Fashion Week) and Paris before I can completely zero in on construction for my store. The trips so far have been amazing, I'm so proud of everything my designers are doing and cannot wait to feature them in my store. They are all incredibly talented.
