Overview

The Business and Marketing for Nail Professionals Workshop equips students with the essential knowledge and skills to succeed in the competitive nail industry. This workshop focuses on the business aspects of running a nail salon or freelance nail business, including brand development, social media marketing, client communication, nail photography, and effective client retention strategies. Participants will learn how to effectively market their services, build a strong brand presence, attract and retain clients, and leverage digital platforms to grow their nail business.

Required: High school graduation or equivalent or mature student status (19+)

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a strong brand identity and positioning that resonates with the target market.
  • Understand the principles of effective marketing and create compelling promotional strategies to attract clients..
  • Master social media marketing techniques to leverage platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest to showcase work, engage with clients, and attract new customers.
  • Learn effective client communication skills, including active listening, professional etiquette, and handling client inquiries and concerns.
  • Gain knowledge of nail photography techniques to capture high-quality images of nail designs for promotional purposes.
  • Explore strategies for client retention and building long-term relationships, including loyalty programs, special offers, and personalized experiences.
  • Understand basic financial management principles, including budgeting, pricing, and inventory control, to ensure a profitable nail business.

    The Business and Marketing for Nail Professionals Workshop utilizes a variety of evaluation methods to assess students' understanding and application of the concepts covered. These methods may include written assessments to evaluate theoretical knowledge, case studies or group projects to analyze real-life business scenarios, role-playing exercises to demonstrate effective client communication skills, marketing plan development to assess strategic thinking and creativity, and presentations to showcase marketing campaigns or business plans. Instructors will provide feedback and guidance to help students improve their business acumen and marketing skills.
     

    Meet your professors

    Heidi C

    Heidi has been a makeup and hair artist in Vancouver since 2010 after leaving her job as a flight attendant. Her journey started from a makeup counter to a bridal to commercial. She has worked hundreds of weddings, has been published over three dozen times and is currently agency represented. She worked for many brands on the market, was a trainer with a French luxury brand and is currently a studio makeup artist with another.

    Iki Lee

    Iki has been a professional Makeup artist and hair stylist in Vancouver since 2019. After graduating from Blanche Macdonald, Iki has developed well-rounded makeup skills in beauty, editorial, body painting, and special effects. Iki takes pride in getting her clients camera-ready and flawless for their big events – whether on-set or on a wedding day, she honed her skills working for production, fashion shows, photoshoots, and weddings. Iki is currently a Union member of IATSE 891 and ACFC 2020 and the Head of the Makeup Department for JoyTV. Her body painting work has been exhibited nationwide, including the Museum of Anthropology (UBC), Telephone Gallery (Vancouver), The Bows (Calgary), and Maison Des Artistes Visuels Francophones (Winnipeg). She has also worked on numerous fashion campaigns includes: Casca, Understance, Thom., Montecristo, Vancouver Fashion Week, Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week, and the list goes on.    With all those experiences, she finds her true passion is using makeup to tell a story and design a character via the aesthetic and artistry details.
