Scheduling

Day 1

Understand specialist supplies required for couture beading such as the variety of beads and sequins and the way ‘fil a gant’ thread is made in France.

Learn how to create a solid framework ready for beading using silk organza on a rotating frame.

The main focus is on the basic chain stitch using a tambour hook correctly set up for silk organza. Learn how to secure a starting and finishing knot and change direction.

Seed beads, cut beads, and bugle beads are used to start tambour beading with a variety of threads.

Day 2

Further, develop the tambour beading technique by working with flat and cup sequins before creating the vermicelli pattern using the Ari technique.

Further techniques are combined with the couture beading with a beading needle to create contemporary beadwork including ribbonwork, 3d beadwork, and flowers.

These are all applied to a mini sample at the end of the day.
Please remember although you will be learning in a mixed-technique group, your class is tailored specifically to your progress.

Charlotte Appleby

Couture Bead Masters is founded by Charlotte Appleby a British Couture dress designer, trained at London College of Fashion in Handcraft and Production tailoring. I initially worked within fashion, film and theatre before setting up my own business The English Tailoress. I always had a passion for couture beading and applied it to many of my eveningwear and bridal designs. I learnt the skill in 2007 through a workshop and became hooked on the ‘Luneville’ technique. This technique is practiced in the couture houses in Paris today however its origin dates to the early 1800’s. I celebrate the traditional art of couture beading and share my experience to other designers, enthusiasts and companies worldwide. I set up Couture Bead Masters to maintain these artisanal skills within the industry to keep the traditional techniques alive. Alongside my private commission work I educate Internationally running workshops & online courses teaching specialist skills executed in my work. I also provide specialist couture supplies and online resources sharing my knowledge and continued appreciation of couture beading and embellishment.
